Made after the original bust of Capt. Jones by the famous French sculpturist Jean Antoine Houdon (1741-1828) who also made the bust of George Washington amoung others. This bust is made of plaster covered with terracotta and stands 29" high. John Paul Jones (1747-1792) is best remembered as the father of the U.S. Navy and its' first hero. His famous words "I have not yet begun to fight" were shouted back at a British Captain during a fierce Naval battle in 1779 which ultimately ended with the British Captain surrendering. This bust does have one small 1" chip to the ribbon in Jones' hair, otherwise it is in fine condition.
