A U.S. Congressional Medal Issued in Honor of Commodore Edward Preble (1761-1807) Circa 1814

This wonderful bronze medal is in Gem Unciculated condition! It was struck from the original dies by John Reich. In 1803 Preble, on board his flagship, USS Constitution, sailed against the barbary pirates in a seven ship, 1000 man squadron. Preble attacked the Harbor at Tripoli which was defended by 25,000 men and caused severe damage and heavy casualties. Diameter: 2 1/2"
