An historic carving set made from salvaged materials taken from the wreck of HMS Royal George

The paper label reads "Carving knife and fork made from the wreck of the Royal George sunk at Spithead 1782, 1000 lives lost, given to William church, Nov. 1925 by Frederick Gibbons. Given to grandfather of Mr. Gibbons prior to 1850." The wreck was salvaged in 1839 and a variety of items were made from wood, copper and steel, including this carving set. The blade of the knife is fully inscribed.
