Engraved "Capt. M. Sewall, 1849," this historic trumpet belonged to Captain Merrill Sewall. In 1849 he was master of two ships, the MIMOSA and the CABOT. His most famous command was for the extreme clipper ship 'FLYAWAY', built in New York by William Webb in 1853. The trumpet is made of brass and retains its' wonderful mellow antique patina. The interior stills shows traces of its' original red protective paint. Slight cracks and damage to the rim as is customary in these well used speaking trumpets, otherwisw in great condition.
