A 1776 Dated and Inscribed Gold Memorial Pinback Broach with encased lock of hair belonging to Elizabeth Coleman Pollard who died at the age of one.

SOLD

This ornate gold Memorial broach was obviously made for a wealthy family. The white enameled edge has a hand-painted gold inscription reading "Eliz. Coleman Pollard Born 3 April 1775 Obit 6 Nov. 1776." Within the oval broach is a gold cypher with her initials placed on top of a woven lock of fine blond hair. Overall, this magnificent quality Revolutionary War era memorial piece is in quite wonderful condition. There is only one very fine crack in the original glass near the very top upper edge. This outstanding broach was clearly made for a very beloved child whose life ended too early. 1.75" by 1"
