A fine and rare pair of historically important Queen Anne period cast bronze medallions dated 1707.

SOLD

These wonderful 'high relief' bronze medallions are dated 1707 and commemorate the Act of Union whereby the Kingdoms of England and Scotland were united into a single sovereign state, the Kingdom of Great Britain. These medallions may represent trial castings intended as suggestions for a second great-seal and counter seal of Queen Anne. They were most likely designed and executed by John Roos, Royal Seal-Engraver to Queen Anne. These fine and beautiful examples measure 7" in diameter and are identical to examples in the collections of the British Museum.
