A RARE U.S. Mint Striking of the WASHINGTON Sansom Medal circa 1859-1870 NGC graded MS-64

SOLD

This solid bronze medal (40.8 mm) has been professionally graded and encapsulated NGC MS-64. It is one of only 308 minted and perhaps one of only a handful that are in MS-64. Though dated 1797, this beautiful, broad rimmed Sansom medal was made from new dies engraved at the Philadelphia Mint and struck beginning in 1859 and lasting until about 1870. Only 308 was minted making it a great rarity. If it were a coin made at the U.S. Mint, it would be selling for tens of thousands of dollars. Now a wondeful light chocolate brown in color witha few traces of luster near the edges. A rare opportunity to buy a very rare medal.
