An Interesting late 19th century metal Placque depicting the Governor Cradock House in Medford, Mass, 'The Oldest House in America, Built 1634'

Possibly made of pewter or a similar metal, this beautifully engraved placque depicts 'The Governor Matthew Cradock House' in Medford, MASS., THE OLDEST HOUSE IN AMERICA, built in 1634. Cradock was the first Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, dying in 1641. The placque states that the house 'is still in a good state of preservation, it's thick walls perforated by loop holes, and its heavily shuttered windows indicate that it was erected as a defense against Indians.' Framed, it measures 12 1/4" x 9 1/4"
