A 19th century Scrimshaw whale's tooth depicting a Frontiersman holding a Kentucky rifle circa 1858

The reverse side of this tooth features a woman dressed in a long robe holding a torch in one hand and a sheaf of wheat in the other hand. At the bottom of the tooth are the initials "B E" and the name "W. Cahil." Length: 4.5". The image of the frontiersman is inspired by the frontispiece of "Life and Adventure of James R. Beckworth" by T.D. Bonner published in New York by Harper & Brothers in 1858. Provenance: The Thomas Mittler Collection.
