A 19th century scrimshawed polycome decorated whale's tooth featuring LADY LIBERTY, UNION and a family or regimental crest circa 1860.

Measuring 4 1/2" long, this charming American Civil War era whales' tooth features "Lady Liberty" scrimed in red and blue ink, the word UNION in capital letters and a family or regimental crest or coat-of-arms. Wonderful original color and patina. The tooth probably dates to 1860-1865. Further research may identify the crest.
