A beautiful whale bone half hull model of a whale boat by Aletha Macy of Nantucket 1965

Aletha Macy (1901-1971) was born on Nantucket and was a direct descendent of Thomas Macy, one of the original founders of the island community. In the early 1950's she began carving whale ivory pieces to go on the tops of Jose Reyes Nantucket purse baskets.
