A fine and rare DOUBLE-Flued whaling HARPOON by Joseph Dean and James Driggs of New Bedford circa 1847

Measuring 33 1/2" long, this very nice example is stamped "D & D" for Joseph Dean and James Driggs who established their business on Merril's Wharf in New Bedford in 1846. Traces of the original orange lead paint are visible under the black coat. Provenance: The Wing family of New Bedord and Dartmouth,important whaling ship owners of the 19th century.
