A fine and RARE Revolutionary War period Ships' Registry document for the brigantine 'Betsy' of Nantucket boldly signed on August 7, 1781 by Massachusetts Governor and signer of the Declaration of Independence JOHN HANCOCK.

There are many Hancock signed documents on the market ranging in price from $10,000 to $50,000. Even though this example is priced at the lower end, the quality and condition of the document is excellent and is probably the best I have ever seen. JOHN HANCOCK's signature is large, dark and bold. The document is counter signed by John Avery, Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The document was issued to William Shattuck, owner of the ship Betsy, which was built on Nantucket in 1769. The ships' master, William Morton, is also listed on the document. An steel plate engraving of Hancock circa 1861 is also included. Museum quality matting and framing. Size framed: 23 1/2" by 18 1/2" A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO ACQUIRE THIS IMPORTANT DOCUMENT.
