A Fine Pre-Revolutionary War Military Officer's Commission signed by Massachusetts Bay Governor Francis Bernard dated July 1, 1762

SOLD

Signed by Francis Bernard, Governor in Chief of the Province of Massachusetts Bay, the document appoints Abraham Brown of Grafton, Massachusetts, a Lieutenant in the Militia. NOTE: Sir Francis Bernard served as colonial governor of New Jersey (1758-1760) and was transferred to the governorship of Massachusetts. He lost popularity there because he felt it his duty to enforce the STAMP ACT and other laws the colonists found objectionable. In 1769 he was recalled to England. Good overall condition. Attractively framed, it measures 15 1/2" x 18 1/4"
