A Magnificent oil portrait of a company grade officer of a United States Army Infantry regiment circa 1818-1832.

This magnificent portrait of a handsome and dashing United States Army Captain measures 25" by 30" and has recently been professionally cleaned. The officer is wearing a tunic covered with silver thread collar and sleeve chevrons, silver buttons and silver bullion(?) thread epaulets. He is also wearing leather gloves and has a red sash around his waist. The Curator of the West Point Museum has identified the period of the painting to be 1818-1832. The painting is now mounted in a custom made 19th century style carved gilt wood frame which measures 29" by 34 1/2". Provenance: The painting comes from the Estate of Lee Remick, former Cape Cod resident and long time stage and screen actress, who died in 1991. We are researching this painting further to try to make an attribution as to the artist and possibly even the officer. We currently believe that the painting is by Thomas Sully but are awaiting second opinions.
