A Rare War of 1812 Naval Commission signed by President JAMES MADISON appointing David Deacon as Master Commandant on Dec. 10, 1814.

A very fine example of a rare War of 1812 Naval Commission signed by President James Madison and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Benjamin W. Crowninshield on December 10, 1814. In this document David Deacon is appointed Master Commandant. He had entered the Navy in 1799 as a midshipman and promoted to Lieutenant in 1807. Later in 1826 he was appointed Captain by President John Quincy Adams. He held that rank until his death in 1840. Beautifully custom matted and framed with an early 19th century engraving of MADISON and an engraved metal placque giving Madison's history as President.
