A Regency Irish Silver Presentation Salver by William Nowlan, Dublin, 1818

The central inscription reads: "A Testimonial of Gratitude & Affection,Parishioners of St. Peter's Dublin, to their late Minister, the Very Reverend James Saurin, Dean of Derby. George Wharton, I.D. Clarke, 1819, Church Wardens." The rim engraved "Consecrated Bishop of Dromore, December 10th, 1819." Bishop James Saurin (1760-1842) was a well liked Irish reverend who was descended from a distinguished Huguenot family. His brother William served as Attorney-General for Ireland from 1807-1821. Bishop Saurin served and consecrated numerous Irish churches. The pulpit at Dromore Cathedral is named after him. Diameter 18 1/2" Weight 89 oz.
