Los Caprichos are a set of 80 prints created by the Spanish artist Francisco Goya in 1797 and 1798, and published as an album in 1799. Being offered is a later edition print, number 54. It is entitled "El Verganzoso" which means "The shamefaced one." A good impression from a later 19th century edition. Goya comments, "There are men whose faces are the most indecent parts of their whole bodies and it would be a good thing if those who have such unfortunate and riduculous faces were to put them in their breeches." Francisco de Goya y Lucinetes was born in 1746 and died in 1828. The prints were an artistic experiment: a medium for Goys's condemnation of the universal follies and foolishness in the Spanish society in which he lived.
