Log Book of the Bark "Wave Bound" of New Bedford, Leonard Courtney, Master, on a whaling voyage to the South Atlantic 1860-1862

This very nice clean example of a whaling log book contains approximately 160 pages of text with beautiful manuscript entries. The journal itself measures 9 1/2" by 14 1/2" and is bound with a calf spine with calf corners on the original boards. There are also a fair number of very handsome whale stamps. At the end of the log book the master included a four page record of stores expended on the two year voyage which only brought back a disappointing 275 barrels of sperm whale oil, hardly worth the effort.
