This American revolutionary war note was payable to Ralph Pomeroy, who served as a Military Paymaster, for wages, reimbursement, expenses or loss due to damages during the Revoluionary war. The military finances for the colony of Connecticut were handled by the PAY-TABLE, also known as the Committee of Four. Their members were rotated. The signatures of three of the four members were required for an order to pay. On this document we have "Fenn Wadsworth, Eleazer Wales and the vertical signature of a man named "Washington."
