This charming box has an impressive provenance as well as wonderful features. The features include an incised whale's tail on the heart shaped handle as well as an incised fouled anchor with British flags on the sliding lid. The sides have the name 'Charles Adam' and 'Montrose June 26, 1830.' In 1984 this rare box was sold by Norm Flayderman to J. Welles Henderson, then founder of the Philadelphia Seaport Museum and later author of "JACK TAR, A Sailor's Life, 1750-1910." Length: 10"
