A RARE Frontispiece from Basilius Besler's “Hortus Eystettensis“ published in 1640

Basilius Besler (1561-1629) was a respected Nuremburg apothecary and botanist, best known for his monumental publication "Hortus Eystettensis." The first edition of 300 copies was published in 1613 and subsequent publications were done in 1640 and then again in 1713. I have dated this frontispiece to the second printing in 1640. It has later hand coloring and has been magnificently framed and matted by well known art dealer Graham Arader. An extremely decorative and rare engraving. Size of frame: 28 1/2" by 33".
