A 19th century sailor-made bone snuffbox inscribed "Acushnet-Nantucket" circa 1840-1850

Herman Melville sailed on the maiden voyage of the Acushnet in December 1840 under the command of Capt. Valentine Pease. Much of what Melville wrote on came from his experiences onboard the Acushnet. The box measures 2 1/4" long. Fabulous piece of history.
