A 19th century scrimshawed whale's tooth featuring American Naval hero Commodore Stephen Decatur (1779-1820) circa 1845

This attractively engraved whale's tooth depicts Commodore Stephen Decatur (1779-1820), an American Naval hero of the War of 1812. An American flag or banner is featured his left side with the reverse depicting a garden bench with flower pot and leafy vines above. Length: 5 1/2" Condition: typical age cracks and some chips to the bottom edge. One horizontal age crack near tip of tooth. Lovely original patina and color.
