A Beautifully Handcrafted and Unique 'WHALER'S“ Basket made by Chatham Artist Ken Campbell

This magnificent handcrafted whaler's ' basket is made entirely of individually hand cut pieces of antique whalebone, richly figured mahogany and rosewood and is the creation of local Chatham artist Ken Campbell. The basket is entitled "The Chase" and the scrimshawed oval whale ivory (made from the tooth of the sperm whale) medallion in the base depicts a 19th century whaling scene. Each basket that Ken designs is unique and of the highest quality. In this basket, Ken has used miniature hand made rosewood belaying pins for the basket staves and has cut four miniature whalebone ships' blocks as feet. This is a real treaure and worthy of any scrimshaw or basket collection.
