A Fine Contemporary Polycromed Scrimshawed Whales Tooth By William Gilkerson

The tooth was scrimed by Mr. Gilkerson in the late 1970's. Gilkerson is considered by many to be the greatest living scrimshander and this 6 3/4" tooth is simply outstanding in quality and detail! Mr. Gilkerson has written and illustrated 10 books and his works of art have been commissioned or purchased by some 40 public and private institutions, including: Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia, New Bedford Whaling Museum, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Nantucket Whaling Museum, National Geographic Society, Peabody Essex Museum of Salem, National Maritime Museum, South Street Seaport Museum, USS Constitution Museum, U.S. Naval Academy Museum, and many more.
