A Toggle Harpoon in 'Improved' style from the New Bedford Whaleship HORATIO circa 1877-1880

The Horatio was built at Port Jefferson, N.Y. in 1877 but operated from New Bedford. She was considered one of the finest ships in the fleet. The harpoon is marked on one side of the head "LB" for larboard boat. On the opposite side "SHIP HOR with four dots representing the letters "atio". It ialso has the initials "EB & F" and traces from'MACY.'Length: 33.5". PROVENANCE: The harpoon was purchased from Nina and Bob Hellman of Nantucket and comes with a copy of the original receipt and other information.
