a Beautiful Early 19th Century Gold and Enamel "Sailor's Farewell" Brooch

A very charming hand painted ivory miniature set into a gold and enamel brooch or pin of a sailor pointing to the sea and saying goodbye to his girlfriend (or wife). On the reverse side is a small clipping of hair neatly tied by a ribbon and enclosed in glass. First quarter of the 19th century.
