A hand colored engraving of George Washington saying "Put None But Americans on Guard Tonight" by F.Darley and published by An Act of Congress in 1859

SOLD

In this famous, but (apocryphal) command given on the eve of his Crossing the Delaware, this wonderful engraving was done after Darley's painting. Darley was America's first great illustrator, producing numerous images for books and magazines in the 19th century. He helped forge America's national identity. Now custom framed and matted and with UV protected museum glass, the overall measurements are 20" by 15".
